This photo is a shot of some of my family, The Rainbow Roller Rockers, back in 1981 after performing a skate show at a festival in Rochdale Village. From left to right are; Lance Cain, Rosie Saunders, Chrissy Hines, David Dean, Lisa Beal, Laura Evelyn(R.I.P.), Chucky, and on the bottom is Yvonne Allaway. This mix is a reminder of some of the best times in my life. Back in late 79 to the mid 80’s, hanging out in Rochdale Village (Queens) at the skating rink (top floor of the big mall) and then on the black top in the middle of the complex. The songs that you are listening to now are the songs that we used to play at the rink on a nightly basis. I know what you’re thinking; “how come he’s making so much fuss about going to a skating rink?” Well we didn’t just go there, we grew up there. Most of us worked there, so we were there every day regardless of the crowd. It was our home, and I’m not ashamed to admit that I cried when it closed its doors for good as the result of a few tax problems. We forged lifelong relationships and romances that still stand to this day and enjoyed parties, hangouts and vacations that most of you will only dream about. This was a time when people weren’t afraid to say “I love you” to someone and actually meant it. The people in my life at the time are still considered my dearest family and we still hang out whenever we can. We’ve had some of the best times in the world and lived through some of the worst, but right now is a time for celebration and an ounce of respect for long lasting loves. So sit back and enjoy this mix and get @ me when you’re done. Peace & Blessings

Sundays living in Hollywood, used to be bliss. No work to do, no clubs to go to, no videos to shoot or songs to record. Just straight “ME” time. I used to get up early, clean the bathroom and kitchen, walk down to Ralphs and get some groceries and then hit the streets. The farmers market on Wilshire or the African Market Place or 5th street Dicks, off Crenshaw. Maybe go to the movies, or out to Pasadena to hang with the family. I was easy to find in LA, because I was the only person out there who didn’t have a car. All you had to do was go to one of the bus stops and chances are you would see me getting either on or off a bus. I didn’t care though, it was just a ride, and at night you didn’t have to find a space to park it in. Peace to all the folks that I’ve spent Sundays with in LA: Danny, Nate & Joe, Seb & Mel & The crew @ REACT, Dave & Sherry & the Kids, Pure Black, Monica McKnight, Debra Wilson, P.J. Johnson, Sandy, Woody & Marcelle, The Gang at Lucy Florence Coffee House, and especially the wife, Denise & Justin (when they used to come out to stay with me) All of these people were a blessing to me and got me through the bad times and helped me to really enjoy the good ones. Dammmmmm!!! I miss LA.

Ajax Park 79 When I did this mix I was thinking about the days back in Ajax Park in South Jamaica, NY. This park was a 15 minute walk from my block and we used to get word that they were Jamming (playing music) there, and get the crew together and walk over. Only the groups with the biggest systems could play at Ajax, because the park was so big. You really had to have a monster sound to turn that park out. Some of the crews that used to play there include: The original Cipher Sounds, Infinity Machine, Phase III, Sound Experience, Professor & Company, Supreme Sounds and Together Brothers with Kid Flash. A lot of reputations were made in that park and also a lot of Hip-Hop history.
The photo above was taken by the New York Daily News, last year and features; DJ Ragu & Divine (Infinity Machine), The Original Cipher Sounds (DJ Understanding) and Me - Cheda' Jones (MC Magic in the 70's).

This True School Hip-Hop mix is dedicated to everyone that appreciates original hip-hop in its finest form. This goes out to Seb for all the days that we rode up and down Crenshaw in the mustang, listening to Pete Rock and The Audio 2. This is for Pure (lynnique the queen of speak) Black for putting me on to NaS, Cal Tjader and Me’Shell and for making me ride the Train all the way to Brooklyn from South Side just to hear them. This is for Daniel & Joe (R.I.P.) Lemelle and Nate Hughes for all the times when we had to have Rally burgers and beer instead of real meals, because we were dedicated to the cause. Oh, yeah and Scottie Trippin’, he knows who I’m talking to. This is for Richard and Julie Stumpf, and Ron Johnson who partied with me till the break of dawn on the French Riveria and then got up early and went to chase the deals. This is for Mel, Denise, Gina, Natalie, Leone, Jackie, Madison, and Crystal for including me in the creation of their dream. This is for the Queens Original Hip-Hop crew; Cipher Sounds, Infinity Machine, Sweety G, Spyder D, Phase III, Sound Experience, Supreme Sounds, Master of Sounds and Sight & Sounds for being there when I thought all there was to life was drawing for Marvel comic books. This is for DJ Wayne Ely who taught me that even little southern towns had Hip-Hop souls. This also for my boy Talib A. Haq for proving everybody wrong, and for having my back when we used to scream "New York is in the House!" at the all the wrong times in the LA House of Blues. Peace, and in the words of Ralph McDaniels; Crack is Wack! Get @ Me – Cheda’ jones
